What would you design for a Princess and a First Lady?

When I was first given the brief, I dived straight into the process of getting-to-know the people I was designing for. Afterall, jewellery has to not only be luxurious, but practical to one's life and position, what more jewellery to be worn by royalty and a political figure. So we went through pictures of the two ladies dressed at their various diplomatic events. Much can be discerned from how we dress, which includes our personality, our drive and our tastes. It was clear to me that the women I was designing for were stunning, feminine, bold and very chic. Simple lines were always accompanied by interesting texture, a slight pop of colour and motifs that had deeper meanings to them.

Lechelle Petite is very much known for our luxury pearls. in particular from our access to luxury Japanese Akoya pearls. While I knew the Princess and First Lady were definite lovers of the akoya, I decided that it would be meaningful and appropriate that a diplomatic gift be one that shares heritage close to Singapore's heart, and is equally precious as the pearl.

Diplomacy is always about building bridge of shared appreciation for how our histories collide, admiration for each nation's accomplishments and evolution -- a commitment to progress in peace and collaboration. This was why I chose to feature jadeite in the designed pieces. Why jadeites? Well, it is a precious gem that is appreciated across borders and tradition. Its gentle soft yet regal beauty, a true challenger to the pearl's shine. Drawing from my experience with diplomacy and the formalities of diplomatic events, I decided on perfect apple green jadeites. I chose them because it is a much more youthful colour, evoking light feelings like the tinkling of beautiful jade. For the First Lady, something simpler, sweet and gentle, yet still a statement and its beauty noticeable. Perfect for day-time diplomatic activity. For HRH, I chose something far more fabulous: double white sapphire drops - cut to resemble 3 carat deep set diamonds that glittered with movement. The royalty of any nation are cultural icons, a connection to the history and heritage of a nation. Their regality and poise woven into the nation's fabric.

We were so thankful to hear, a year on, that the gifts were loved and treasured.They were prototypes of our now signature piece that has now been loved across 4 continents. Thank you so much for loving them.
