A National Flower

My office table at home & the orchid species that inspired us

Rose d’Or, Petals of Pink & Gold: Read about its creation below ↓

Inspirations

Before 2020 & COVID, I would always have a pot of fresh orchids on my office table. They lasted for a month before the flowers fell off, and I would attempt to nurture the plant into blooming again. Quite honestly, most of the time i failed terribly at that as I did not posses a green thumb like my mother. I would sheepishly turn out the bald stalks sadly and then drive over to the florist on Bukit Timah to pick up another pot.

Unfortunately, this little personal pleasure of mine had to fade when the uncle I used to buy blooms from retired post 2020, and I decided that I would hunt down the prettiest faux orchid pot to replace my natural blooms. I must say I am thankful for no longer having that guilt ache I once felt when I had to "put out" the bald orchid stalk. >.< Furthermore, I must say that the eternal bloom is hassle-free and amazing for a busy Singaporean.

But back to designing a wearable orchid! It is a flower that i've always loved but could never find a pair of earrings that truly did them justice — nothing with lifelike petals, elegant balance, or that quiet femininity the flower carries so naturally.

When we looked into the orchid design, walks to the Singapore Botanical Gardens and the permanent orchid exhibitions was invaluable. So many different species and hybrids we found! The truth is, the team and I are looking forward to creating more versions of our beautiful pair.

We were motivated by the celebration of our nation's 60th birthday in 2025, and so we were determined to create the prettiest orchid pair: petal by petal, curve by curve, we shaped them til they looked almost alive — designed to sit beautifully on the ear, refined in posture and form. Then came the Akoya pearls: small for delicate grace, larger for presence and confidence. Each size brings its own mood, transforming the orchids from soft and subtle to bold and luminous.

And just like that, the earrings became something more — petite objects of art to treasure. Feminine, sculptural, high-end, and made to be kept forever in a collection box. An orchid that finally blooms the way we always imagined it.

Did you know?

The Orchid -- Singapore's national flower, chosen thoughtfully as it embodies resilience, a year-round blooming quality, and the nation's unique hybrid culture and multicultural heritage. It was chosen in 1981 to represent Singapore's spirit of progress and excellence.
