Pearl Care
FAQ
Pearls are organic gemstones, and their beauty can be affected by acids, alkalines, and extreme humidity.
To keep yours luminous, avoid direct contact with cosmetics, hairspray, or perfume. As a rule of thumb, put on your jewellery last — after make-up and hair are done.
Perspiration can also dull a pearl’s natural lustre. Before placing your piece back into its box, gently wipe it with a soft cloth to keep it glowing for years to come.
Pearls are naturally cohesive and resilient, yet they can still be scratched by sharp objects or harder gemstones.
To prevent tangling and surface abrasions, fasten all clasps and pins before storing, and place each piece separately in a compartmentalised jewellery box. When travelling with jewellery, use a protective pouch to keep each item secure.
Because pearls can dehydrate over long periods in a dry security box, it’s best to wear them often — as the saying goes, “pearls want to be worn.”
For pearl rings, please note that they are considered dress pieces rather than everyday wear. Daily use may compromise both the pearl’s nacre and the integrity of its setting, including those from Lechelle Petite.
Even with careful handling, fine jewellery may develop natural wear over time.
Before each wear, we recommend checking key components such as prongs, necklace clasps, earring screws, and brooch pins to ensure all settings remain secure.
Cultured pearl necklaces are traditionally strung with durable wired thread. However, with time, the string may loosen and could break without warning. Even if your pearls are worn infrequently, regular checks on the string's integrity is recommended to preserve both beauty and security.
Ultrasonic cleaners should never be used on pearl jewellery, as the vibrations and chemicals can damage the pearls. Lechelle Petite jewellery come with a cleaning microfibre velvet. You should dampen this cloth and gently wipe off all oils and dirt. Do not rub too hard to wear the natural nacre away unintentionally with time and repetition.
Jadeite Care
FAQ
Natural, untreated jade's color will not change due to perspirationin a permanent way. However, the interaction of sweat and skin oils with the stone's surface can make it appear more lustrous or slightly darker over time, with exposure to body fluids and heat.
The natural oils and moisture from your skin can interact with the jade's surface, filling micro-fissures and enhancing its transparency and polish. This process is often referred to in Chinese culture as "nurturing jade," making the stone appear more vibrant or "watery" over time.
Long-term accumulation of sweat (which contains salts and oils) can form a yellowish film on the surface, making it look dull. This is a surface effect and can usually be resolved by regular cleaning.
Jadeite is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so some care should be taken to avoid scratches. However, both of these gemstones have exceptional toughness and are very resistant to breaking or chipping.
However, it is best to separate your diamond jewellery from other stone jewellery, including jadeite.
Ultrasonic cleaners and steam cleaners are safe for Lechelle's jades as they are untreated.
